Weekend Events

We had a really nice weekend! We spent time with friends, hung out with family, explored Houston, and did some baking.

Our First Family Picture
Friday night we went to a new place in Tomball with our friends Eli and Laura. It was called Mel's Country Cafe and they are the home of the "Mega Mel Burger." It's 1.5 pounds of ground beef, 1 pound of bacon, and 1/4 pound of cheese, plus lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles!! If you eat it in 2 hours, it's free. We saw someone there that ordered it, but when we left they still hadn't finished it. They have good chicken fried steak, and fried okra as well. It was a fun place!
Saturday afternoon we met my great aunt Martha, her daughter-in-law Scarlett and her kids Emma and Jon Jon at their new house. They are moving here in February, and will be only 15 minutes away from us. We are way excited!!! It will be nice to have family so close. We saw their house, played on their new neighborhood playground with Emma and Jon Jon and then we went and ate dinner. Jon Jon loved Bryan, but he couldn't remember his name so he kept calling him Ron. It was too funny!

We have also been trying to keep up with Kelty this weekend. He has become very comfortable at our house, and boy does he have tons of energy! He loves the landscaping in our backyard, and runs really fast in and out of the bushes. Sometimes I call him jungle dog. :) He is sleeping well through the night, we only wake him up one time to take him outside. He is eating well, and we are slowly working on potty training, but I'm hoping he's getting the hang of it! He also loves to sleep under our coffee table, as you can see in the picture.

I made some chocolate chip scones this morning. I found the recipe from another blog, and decided to try it out. If you want the recipe, check it out on Jennifer's blog. They were really good. There is orange juice in the recipe, so I decided to make an orange glaze to go on top. I just used powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla extract. I just guessed at the measurements, and mixed until it looked right.
This afternoon we decided to explore Houston. There is a new craft studio and sewing lounge called "Sew Crafty" that I wanted to see. It's in a neighborhood called The Heights, and it was really cool. They sell fabric and patterns, and they have classes you can take that teach you how to sew and knit. Today we just browsed, but I would love to take a class!

I will leave you with Jungle Dog in action. :)
Hope you have a great week!

  1. I love your family picture, all color coordinated! I have to say the scones look much better than the hamburger, that is just gross. Sew Crafty looks like lots of fun. Glad you guys had a good time with all of your different outings!! Miss you so much, Mom
