Living Room

On my next room in the home tour I decided to go with the living room. I am really liking how this room has turned out so far. The only thing I still need to do is put something on the left side of the TV. Any suggestions?? We were thinking about a mirror, but I thought it might be an awkward place for one. Since we are so blessed, most of the things in this room have been given to us by other people! There are few things in here we have bought. So if you have contributed, we can't say thank you enough!!

Here is the main view from the kitchen. The couches were given to us from Keith and Carla. The coffee and side table used to be Jordan and Jennie's. The bookshelf used to be Joe and Sandy's. And my mom has gotten lots of the picture frames and books for me. So our living room was outfitted for us. Thanks!!! :) I did contribute the metal star from Hobby Lobby, but that's about it.

The small pillows were made by Carla for me for Christmas. The earthy orange pillows I got at Stein Mart last week. Two for $14.99!! What a deal!

Bryan and I created these wall hangings from leftover fabric. He built the frames and we stretched the fabric around it!

Here is the love seat with my first quilt I ever made! Carla taught me how, she is a great teacher. This quilt is the inspiration for the whole room. I also found this green pillow at Stein Mart for only $10!

Here is the quilt close up. Bryan has told me that it surprises him that I like these colors. I tend to go for brighter colors and not so much earthy colors. He has mentioned that he thinks they are very 70s. I see that but I just think they compliment each other very well. Some of the prints are from the 70s but some are more modern, so I like the mix of old and new. I also told him that I like ALL the colors and don't like to discriminate. (Well except for red) :)

These are one of the newest additions to our living room. They hang to the right of the TV. I also found the polka dotted "C" at Stein Mart, and I love it! On the bottom of the stack of books is a book called "How to Pray." Bryan's grandpa gave it to us as a wedding present. He said it used to be Bryan's grandma's book. He wanted it to help us remember to always put God first in our marriage. It was a very sweet thought and gift. We will treasure that book!

This is the last picture I have of the living room. This is looking back into the kitchen. We got this quote as a wedding present. Just in case this picture is a little hard to read it says, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." These stick on quotes are really neat. This one was a little difficult to stick on since it was so high, but we had plenty of help! :)

And lastly, this has absolutely nothing to do with the living room! I had to buy these the other day at HEB because Bryan informed me he had never had Otter Pops. I thought that was ridiculous. I have already eaten a Strawberry Short Cook, and an Alexander the Grape. So yummy, and the perfect thing to help us adjust to the hotness and humidity that is our new home of Houston. I see many more Otter Pops in our future!!

Thanks for touring! Stay tuned for our his and her offices/guest bedroom.

  1. Seriously, he's never had an Otter Pop? Daddy and I will take Louie Blue Raspberry, please:) I'll have to admit I've been surprised by your affinity for that color scheme as well. It all looks really well together!

  2. You have such a creative style. I love it. It has always amazed me how anyone who knows you well can see pictures of your apartment or house and say, "That is so Ashlan"!!! You never go with what is trendy, you have a totally unique style that is all your own. And now it has some Bryan tossed in there too :)

  3. Excuse my Mr. Bryan. I beg to differ. Maybe you haven't had the Otter Pop brand, but you have had this treat--the summer I babysat you and Nathan. Thankyouverymuch.

  4. Christie, he said he had Pop-Ice, but I told him Otter Pops were in their own category. :)
