Now on to Savannah!
Sunday morning (5/22) I was up bright and early to stand in line for a reservation at Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons. They start taking reservations at 9:00, I got in line around 8:15 and I was towards the front. When it was my turn I made our lunch reservation for 12:30.
This is the long line. Thankfully everyone was friendly, and that made the time pass quickly.
This was also right next to the restaurant, so you could go shopping if you got bored. I bought a cookbook, because I thought it was fitting to get my first Paula Deen cookbook in Savannah!
We decided to walk down to River Street, which is of course right along the river! Here is the steps leading down to the street, and the beautiful oak trees covered in Spanish moss.
We enjoyed browsing the shops and picking out restaurants to try later. Here is Bryan with River Street behind him and he's facing the river.
Then it was back to The Lady and Sons for lunch, and it was delicious!! We started off with sweet tea (of course) biscuits and hoe cakes. Hoe cakes are basically pancakes made with cornbread batter. The main course was buffet style and we indulged in fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and green beans. SOOO GOOD!! We both chose banana pudding for dessert. I wish I could have eaten more!
We walked down to Broughton Street which is the best street for shopping. We only stopped in a few stores, and the Paris Market was fabulous! Here is the chalkboard sign that greeted you as you walked in.
And the beautiful display of pearl covered letters.
The neat thing about Savannah is the way the city is laid out. There are 22 squares in the historic district, that are like little parks. They have trees, statues, and benches. The trees are huge and it's fun to stroll through the sqaures.
That afternoon we took a trolley tour around the town. We saw all the different squares, and heard many of the ghost stories that make Savannah famous! Apparently it's a city built on the dead, very creepy but interesting at the same time.
We were SO hot after the trolley tour, so back to the hotel we went for a swim. Our pool was on the roof of the hotel and this was our view. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and we loved where it was located. It was right in the heart of Savannah, and we could walk everywhere from our hotel!
Then it was dinner time, we ate at Tubby's Tank House where they had some great live music. We sat out on the patio and had a beautiful view of the river. There were two guys singing country songs, and then this little guy gets up there to help. He was the cutest thing strumming on his guitar. I had to tip him $1. :)
Then time for dessert at Leopold's Ice Cream. It was a cute old ice cream parlor, and the ice cream was delicious!
While eating our ice cream we took a little stroll and watched the sunset. :)
We ended up over by the City Market
And Ellis Square, which is the newest and recently remodeled square.
Bryan even found his own street {so fun!} and it was right in the middle of downtown!!
That completes our first day in Savannah, the next day we headed out to the beach to celebrate Bryan turning 25!

Love the pics. Gotta go there sometime. Pretty scenery and great food!
